Our Mission – What is /e-politik.de/?

/e-politik.de/ is a non-partisan student initiative that fosters political and journalistic education on the Internet. Founded in 1999, it has since become one of the leading online magazines in Germany. Our aim is to provide information and a critical perspective on our society. (/e-politik.de/ Berlin, Germany)

Founded in Munich, /e-politik.de/ now consists of five editorial offices in Munich, Berlin, Greifswald, Heidelberg and Leipzig. The initiative started as a way to distribute lecture notes, essays, reading material and the like amongst students. When they started to write down their thoughts and opinions about the material they studied, it soon evolved into what /e-politik.de/ is today: a busy platform reflecting the thoughts and opinions of a young generation eager to participate in public discourse.

We want to inform

As a non-profit association /e-politik.de/ provides background information, analysis and basic political knowledge. First and foremost the site is all about information concerning politics that have an actual impact on society and its development. We believe that independent political knowledge should be accessible to everybody. The Internet as a simple organization and information tool with its high degree of accessibility opens up the possibilities we need.

/e-politik.de/ wants to contribute to political education through participation and discussion. It is our shared belief that political education rests upon two pillars: access to information and new and fresh ideas of young journalists, scientists as well as regular folks, interested in their world. Our archive speaks for itself and we have an extensive network of Alumni who have worked for /e-politik.de/ in the past and are now successful journalists themselves.

We want to support and train

Everybody can participate! By offering a platform to young political scientists, journalists and people from all over the world, everybody can contribute written articles, photos, commentary, interviews and discussions or even introduce totally new ways of writing and present his or her work to a wider audience. This way contributors gain hands-on experience in online writing. Our editorial staff is comprised of passionate volunteers, students and academics as well as journalists who want to pass on their knowledge.

We want to practice journalism

To ensure high journalistic quality in writing copy, we employ a system of peer review. Every submitted article goes through a process of thorough fact and style checks by at least one other editor. Our 40 active members and countless other freelance contributors often specialize in one particular field – be it the arts, book reviews, domestic or international politics. This way, we have created an open and helpful environment aimed at improving our skills that, we hope, also encourages new writers. We are always open to criticism and new ideas at /e-politik.de/, so do not hesitate to contact us via info@e-politik.de.
